Some people think calling someone else "noob" is rude. What do you think?

  (01.09.06 16:29)

No, actually it isnt, being a noob only means someone is unexperienced, but pitily this is used for abusement purposes, because of combitation with stupid noob or damned noob  and so on. Its helpful to tell that the mistake was, or give link to already existing forum topic - in case of :dont hit mage noob: =)
Werent we all noobs once ? And, why not use the more  harmless expression newbie in future ?

  (01.09.06 16:41)

I think that the word "noob" is not offensive it it is possible to apply to those people which know about game (their ignorance leads to a victory of the opponent) and it is possible to apply to those people which afflict during dialogue...!!!

  (01.09.06 17:31)

I consider that it is not insulting!!! Certainly it is possible to use and other words but in fight you quickly will not explain that who that is not right, during such moments there is no word better as "noob".

  (01.09.06 18:21)

nah , i suppose not, it is the most nice ''swearing'' ever i think

  (01.09.06 20:42)

noob is not a swear, as stupid is ofenssive so might be noob but it still not a swear...

  (01.09.06 21:23)

imho yes. I prefer novices

  (01.09.06 22:58)

its depends if its someone i now or a friend i thinks its not nice but if its someone i have had problems with then i kinda find it ok but still not nice

  (02.09.06 02:13)

IT"S fine for me..

  (02.09.06 03:26)

Noob is:

1. A person who is new and or inexperienced to an environment, situation, or game, but doesn't admit it. This person also carries the belief that they are experienced / skilled in that environment, when reality proves otherwise.
2. A person who continually fails and does not learn from their mistakes, and repeats the process.
3. A person who isn't all "there" but doesn't realize it.

:D

sometimes it looks like arrogant word, esspecially when higher level tels it to lower. Sure lower is novice, but higher was novice 2 ^^. It depends at person, some ppl can just laugh at that, n some ppl got very sad when they r called so ;)

My take on this is that "noob" is not itself rude, but the way you use it can be. So if you for example say "pathetic noob".  That's rude.

"Noob" - Newbie

  (08.02.07 05:28)

I don't think that calling a person a noob is rude, but i think that we should think of other turns for the word noob. I have started to call them a dunce (a dumb person) or a smartie (an american sugar candy that doesn't make you any smarter). Try to call people a smartie, or a dunce, it all has the same effect
