About anything > Hypothetical situation 

Imagine that two (white) boys are talking in school and one of them calls the other guy "Hey Niggy let's go to our next class"( the boy said this in his own language) and they often use this word not as a   offensive one but as a word for "bro" etc. But while he's saying that an American teacher (not from the country) hears them and sends the boy to Faculty Council. The boy get's a major punishment. Is the school right to do that who's wrong/right in this situation?

I know americans are very strict about the "N" word .. so this teacher I guess sencentive about it and he has the right.

many schools treat the racism issue very serious so I guess that's why he got punished that way.

and besides there are matters that ppl dont supose to disrespect it .

IMHO I think that student shouldn't be punished with a major punishment but just with a some symbolic punishment .

Word "nigger" is considered to be highly offensive in english language...and such word told in American teacher`s presence, isnt the smartest move.

Every school/universisty has its own policy how to deal with such cases. Not up to us to judge, wether the measures were right or wrong.

I would really like to know the essence of that "major punishment", because i hardly doubt in it...or there could have been some more conflicts between them

none white dude with at least 1/2 of brain would use the N word in discussion with another white dude... whats the point? only those little "eminem" clones uses that to be "cool"...   its simply not cool and he deserve the punishment...

i dont think it would be accepted at all, even if the spirit of the saying make sence.

its not about the meaning of the words itself... its about the meaning the words got in history...!

in ancient ROME, HEIL! was used as often as we say Hi today... during/after WW2, whoever says HEIL is automatically declared as Nazi... why? because it was used by Hitler...

i did it. Whats the problem, alot of children do it. almost any ethnic group use that word as in a greating.

I believe it shouldn't be punished

The problem is that many rap and hip hop singers use that word and this let this word loose a lot of the sence that is was "created" for.I grew up with coloured people and also played basketball with a lot of african americans and native african players and I am sure that this word is still one of the worst you can use.
So only that some rap people made us believe the N-word isn`t harming them anymore ,same as smoking weed is usuall, or treating women like b.., should not make us forget where it came from.
I am sorry for the people that use that word only because of they are too dumb to understand what it means and where it came from.

Well interesting opinion i would agree that this word shouldnt be used cause people shouldnt be judge by their colour not nation nor anything...

well to tell the truth i see it a very hudge issue that a teacher would send someone to a school counsil..this is a bit rediculys i believe it would be better to explain and talk with them not send him to recieve a punishment at least in our country there wont get any punishment cause freedom of speech is not something that can be punished even if it s a bad one it only embarance him as a person and that the poin to make him understand not make him hate his teacher and use that word even more as a reaction...
well dunno for you but in our country there much more cerious thing going on in schooll and no one got any punishments cause of freedom of speech and i believe that best punishment is the one that make him feel his mistake and not an expel for 1 weak for example..

I agree that many schools try to stop racism, but some actually fail to protect their own teachers from insults, not only racist insults, but also sexual and other kind.

Well, the punishment was too harsh i guess, but life ain't fair anyway.
Here - in the baltic states the word ain't taken seriously at all. As we got only one main race - the white race, and we meet native africans, asians or afro americans very rarelly, there's nobody who could start a serious fight against racism.

True it is wrong to use that word. But it is not the kid's fault for growing up in a society where it's normal and then suddenly someone pops up where it's offensive to them. In my opinion he should just be put down and explained to the offensive meaning of the word. No punishment should be involved at all, it'll just make him angrier while he won't understand what h's done wrong.

Black people can use the "N" word talking among each other (also black) without any issue.

Singers who are black or sing the "black music" are also acceptable doing that.

White or other races can not (or should not) use the "N" word since is racism.
