About anything > Martial Arts

  (23.10.07 21:51)

This is called the Fight Club, but still,i can't find a topic about Martial Arts.I would like to discuss about different types, styles of martial arts.Would like to know who practiceses them, and what kind, for how long and so on.
I would like to know what people think about Muay Thai and Capoeira, and if someone practices it,if u could give me some advice...I've practiced Tae-kwon-do for 2 years, but then stopped, coz of lack of time. But now i would like to try something new,and these are my options atm(Muay Thai or Capoeira),but if u could tell me another great style,i'd to love to hear u.

Hope this topic won't die fast ;-)

Well, the topic won't stay here for long, will probably get moved to "about anything".

Don't do martial arts, only gym.

i go to the gym as well, but it seems boring, next to martial arts...and muscles won't do u any good in a fight if u don't know how to move ur body

"and muscles won't do u any good in a fight if u don't know how to move ur body"

It clearly shows how you train there:muscles...muscles...muscels
Ofcourse guys like these wont manage to do anything in real fights,as we all know.
But if you know how to develop/train your body in gym correctly, result might be even
better than doing martial arts...

Back in the days i tried the most styles: Aikido, Karate (Kyokushinkai), Judo, Kung Fu and Kick Boxing.
The one i liked the most was Kung Fu, it wasnt practiced in a real club, instead it was 10 dudes (imigrants)who had a own, unregistered club and i was invited to train with them on ceveral occations. Just great fun.
Hopefully this was of any use for you Thess.

Defensive styles are of greater value than those where the point is to attack first.
For example Aikido. The stronger an enemy wants to hit you and the more efforts and moves he does for it, the easier is to defeat him.

  (24.10.07 13:38)

I practised Wing Tsun (the Leung Ting variant) for almost 2 years and then had to stop due to lack of time. It's the best thing you can do, it is very effective without big efforts in strength. Like Aikido and Kung Fu, it is using the strength and movement of the opponent to defeat him, it's amazing to watch and great fun to learn. :)

  (24.10.07 14:58)

nah)
Kadochnikov and his "System" style he promotes*
is more effective to learn ;if you wanna know smth that could save your life some day...
Istead of learning how to jump on one leg ,or how to breathe like Darth Vader while trying to hit opponent...

  (24.10.07 17:22)

> THE MATRIX HAS YOU [8]

and how can u learn that? I don't think here is smb who can train me that :) Or u mean watch and learn from the i-net?:)

> El Camino [8]

I don't know what kind of gym do u go to and what do u do there, but at my gym i can't do more than develope my muscles :)

> Pennzoil [8]

I was thinking about Kyokushinkai, but dunno if it's practical in real life

> Terex [9]

nice :)

> Sara-Maria [7]

hmm...interesting

what about Muay Thai and Capoeira?:)

  (25.10.07 03:13)

capoeira is shit... it's just for show off.... football is the best way to fight... invite ur agressor to a football match and kick his ass off.... (soccer for americans)

  (25.10.07 12:30)

Thess

what about Muay Thai and Capoeira?:)

Know nothing) Even never heard)

  (25.10.07 13:48)

Muay Thai! :D I live in Thailand man, its a pretty fun sport exept fpr the fact of being kicked on the face. But you can try Karate its useful as well.

  (25.10.07 17:43)

Crazy Simba, i doubt it will do any good if you are attacked on the street, you will get your ass kicked before you can ask the attacker to the football match.

lol :)

btw,aikido is nice,maybe i'll try it if i find a good school )

  (25.10.07 18:50)

Aikido.i watched a master in our university who came from japan and showed us some figures.i was impressed =)) it is the kind of defensive style that let you to use opponent's power by circular movements =)

  (25.10.07 23:46)

> delidumrul

It is, but you'd never guess how dull it is... Aikido is by far (together with Judo) the most boring thing you can be doing. Just to make a comparison take Steven Seagul (Aikido) how extreemly boring it is to watch him in action. And whats the most facinating thing with this "Martial art" is the fact that no matter how much you try, the show doesnt get better than that.

  (26.10.07 01:00)

Pennzoil<i/>

yeah it may seems boring but you know it is defencive style and that must be the reason why it seems boring.but useful.i said i have been impressed, but not cause of its semblance.the most impressive thing was the using opponent's power.even slender ppl can do that as i see and you can see on youtube and in real.

  (26.10.07 01:33)

> delidumrul

I spent two years practicing it ;)

  (26.10.07 01:51)

Pennzoil maybe you were a bad student =))) anyway
